Read some interesting controversial thoughts on productivity. And it got me reflecting on my own definition of productivity, and I actually don't really have one. (dazed)

So I am just going to open up and reflect a little on what productivity mean for me!

productive

/prəˈdʌktɪv/

achieving a significant amount or result.

I first started exploring into the idea of productivity when I was devastated and desperate to make a change in my life by trying to do many things. And I step into this huge personal development trap, productivity. Yes, I want to be productive so I can create more in life and make my life meaningful. So up till now I have a very simple way to fair myself on my productivity - as long as I complete the tasks that I have planned for the week, I am productive! Because I have done well to stick to my schedule and get myself to work and produce RESULTS. And I always love that adrenaline to tick off one more item on the list ✔️

I love the idea of productivity in the way that it acts as a driver to my progress. Whenever I am productive, I am one step closer to building a space I have always envisioned. So grasping on this idea pushes and motivates me to stay on top of the 'producing' state. In order to be productive, there are many methods to do it.

One can be building habits. Once you have a new habit in place, it will eventually become 'easier' as it integrate into being a part of your daily life.

Or you can have a schedule of your day / week / month. If it is too much, a simple to-do list works fine too! I am currently using Trello to track my weekly to-do and it has definitely given me more clarity!

I am not sure what you feel about productivity, but I think it is also valid to say that over-insisting on staying productive can drive ourselves to burnout. Which is why it is always important to stay balance and true productivity thrives in a good system that account for adequate rest.

So that's productivity to me and it has really kept me away from procrastination for good (as of now). Let's see what the writer on Medium have against productivity :)

Dan gave a fresh perspective that we should be constructive instead of productive.

I like the term constructive more than the term productive. Sometimes what we think is productive is actually a waste of time, even destructive.

constructive

/kənˈstrʌktɪv/

having or intended to have a useful or beneficial purpose.

I think he has a good point to that. We are all striving to find that purpose and meaning in ourselves that will make our life beneficial to ourselves (and others). And this makes the whole argument subjective because everyone's purpose can look very different. How a person defines what is constructive is entirely up to them - based on their values and beliefs.

I am seeing constructive and productive as two independent entities but both are equally important to "turn ideas into reality" and rather than viewing them separately, they should in fact coexist.

Be productive in creating constructive changes to your life.

I am only picking a snippet of the article that I find interesting to contribute my personal opinion on, and I honestly love this idea stacking. The world is full of opinions, none is right, but neither is wrong too, at least we are creating a space for all the blurbs which I believe will in turn push more people to become critical thinkers and eventually form their own perspective! Ain't that what makes every single one of us unique?
